A Case of Tecate Blues (or "The Ballad of the Champagne Ranger")

Hank and I made it down to Guerrero Negro just in time to catch the last boat of the season.  The good news is we had this mommy and baby ballena all to ourselves.

Whale

A humpback whale rots on Cannonball Island. This carcass is over a year old and by now is more like whale jerky, but you can still see the huge vertebrae. That's Mike, my erstwhile roommate, providing scale.

Makah

Photography is prohibited at the Makah cultural museum in Neah Bay, so I borrowed these images from the internet. Above are replicas of the whaling canoes used by the ancient Makah, and below is from a modern hunt, still using the traditional canoe.

I also asked the guy at the desk about the Stick People, but he seemed reluctant to talk, obviously afraid of negatively affecting tourism.
